From 1934 to 1974, Mr. Donovan was an attorney for the Transit Authority. He also had a private practice for many years.
He was a former member of the American Bar Association and the New York Bar Association.
He was born June 27, 1908, in the Bronx to Percy J. and Mary Josephine Deehan Donovan. He was a 1927 graduate of All Hallows High School in the Bronx and received his law degree in 1934 from St. John's University Law School in Queens.
On June 30, 1934, he married Sarah P. "Sally" McManus at Our Lady of Refuge Church in the Bronx. Their 64 years of marriage were filled with many blessings, his family said, and the couple had celebrated their 60th anniversary among many relatives and friends.
He lived in Crestwood for 46 years.
Mr. Donovan was active in his parishes, serving for many years as an usher and lecturer. He served as president of the Holy Name Society at Our Lady of Refuge in the Bronx and at Annunciation Church in Crestwood. He served on the board of directors at Maria Regina High School during the Hartsdale school's formative years.
He was a fourth-degree Knight of Columbus and served as the Grand Knight of the Cardinal Hayes chapter in the Bronx.
Mr. Donovan was an avid golfer, his family said, and a member for 35 years of the Bonnie Briar Country Club in Larchmont.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Eugene J. Jr. of Crestwood, James P. of Scarsdale and Peter C. of Yonkers; six daughters, Angela M.Donovan of Yonkers, Marcella McGovern, Grace M. Feighery, both of Crestwood, Sister Margaret M. Donovan of Maryknoll in Tanzania, Patricia M. Baily of Poquoson, Va., and Sally M. Allen of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; a sister, Marcella Mott of New Haven, Conn; 25 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A brother, Laurence; a sister, Margaret Quinn; and three grandchildren died earlier.
Visitation is tomorrow and Sunday at Flynn Memorial Home, 1652 Central Park Ave. in Yonkers. The funeral is at 11 a.m. Monday at Annunciation Church, 470 Westchester Ave. in Crestwood. Burial follows in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
